Good luck with that. From what I hear the reason for no body damage is due to the manufacturers not wanting to protray their cars in a bad light w/ body damage on the like. GT is a great series with depth and all for a racing game but I really can't get into it when I'm flying at 100+ mph and rocket my car right into a wall, only to have it bounce off like a bumper car w/o damage... just plain stupid.
As far as the original question goes regarding engine problems, I doubt it.

it's a video game. i for one like the no damage model that GT uses. Better no damage and more realistic physics than damage model and crappy physics.
