"A woman has a close male friend. This means that he is probably interested in her, which is why he hangs around so much. She sees him strictly as a friend. This always starts out with, you're a great guy, but I don't like you in that way. This is roughly the equivalent for the guy of going to a job interview and the company saying, You have a great resume, you have all the qualifications we are looking for, but we're not going to hire you. We will, however, use your resume as the basis for comparison for all other applicants. But, we're going to hire somebody who is far less qualified and is probably an alcoholic. And if he doesn't work out, we'll hire somebody else, but still not you. In fact, we will never hire you. But we will call you from time to time to complain about the person that we hired."
I know women like this, and I spend as little time as possible dealing with them. They're looking for someone they can 'fix' into the ideal BF. I don't mind making a few adjustments but I'm not interested in being changed into someone I'm not. Just be yourself and fine tune a few things.

If you're openly honest and confident about being interested in a woman and see gives you the whole song and dance "your so sweet, I'm flattered, you have just about everything I look for in a guy but we'd make better friends...blah blah blah" then stop wasting your time. If your qualified and she doesn't at least give it a chance to see if there is a deeper mutual interest then lick your wounds and move on. She really doesn't give a shit, just doesn't want you to feel bad and inadequate in public. Turn around a say "NEXT!"
