I had it happen once and almost got arrested for not having my ID on me, I had forgot it at home. He hassled me about not having it long enough to the point I got mad and said some things I do not regret one bit.

Now you may think that not having to carry an ID or a license is an option but I don't think its so much an option anymore. One other example is that an officer can now ask to see your ID at any point and for any reason...or none in particular. The person in question must provide it or can be detained in some form until proof of identity is attained.
