A pedometer counts the number of steps a person takes. It helps keep track of the distance a person walks in a given amount of time. There is a school of thought that a minimum of 10,000 steps per day will greatly contribute to a person's health. Many people walk less than 5,000 steps per day, and it gets worse if you only walk to and from your car and your desk.
