I have never needed software to access a wireless network. What is it the original poster's trying to do that he feels limited by software?

You really don't need software to access the router, either. Every router I've ever seen can be directly addressed via an HTTP address through a computer hard wired to the router, and them proprietary HTML aides in the programming of the router.
