Default Training for a marathon, any advices?

Well well... 42 km or about 26.4 miles.

I don't know if I can do it, I've never ran such long race. The most I've done was maybe 10km, ~6 miles in about 8 minutes/mile.

That's a pace I consider relatively fast, but at this speed, I will be reaching my limit as I wont be able to go on any further, so you can imagine with a full or half length marathon.

Well, my cousin is trying to drag me in this event, and I'll have a whole year to prepare. Any suggestions on training, specific diet or exercise to maximize my endurance? What kind of times should I shoot in to cover a full or half length marathon (in accordance to my elevation -pikes peak colorado- ... harder to breath here :/).

If there are any runners here, post your experiences or advices.

Thanx in advance.
