Take it to an AC shop. They'll use a vacuum pump to remove all the air & moisture from the system before putting the refrigerant in. It'll work way better that way. Maybe you can find a shop that's willing to simply run their vacuum pump on it for a couple hours, since you've already bought the refrigerant.

Assuming the system's been open for a while, did you replace the receiver/dryer?
