As far as i know VTEC isn't based on speed it's based on RPM of the engine although you could be right. My main point was just that on slicks or drag radials you'll have to launch the car harder cause you have a lot more grip off the line so i launch around 6000 rpms (where vtec would engage).
For all you guys that need a little extra help get yourself some good drag radials or small slicks it makes a world of difference. On average i pulled 2.1-2.2 on 15" street tires in the civic although my M3 is capable of 1.9's on street tires
