Well you just hold your launch rpm higher, when i launch on slicks i launch around 6500 rpms cause the tires are so sticky if you launch lower you'll bog. The feeling of pulling a 1.8 out of the hole in a fwd non LSD civic is amazing, it just shoots you forward and before you realize what's going on you look up and you're going 35mph at the end of 1st gear ready to hit 2nd.
For street tires i generally launch around 4500 rpms and slip the clutch out. I've posted a ton of times on my street tire launch technique but basically hold the gas steady at whatever rpm you need when the 2nd yellow light turns you start to let the clutch up about 30%.
At this point you give it about half gas and feel the clutch engage the car, when you feel the tires start to spin up a little and the car gets traction give it more gas and let up on the clutch a bit more. It's just a delicate balance between clutch/gas until your car hooks up then you basically just mash the gas WOT. It's kind of hard to teach you just have to go and get a feel for it. Also for you guys launching on street tires it's important to deflate your tires to around 20-23 psi to give you a wider contact patch at the drag strip just don't forget to reinflate them when you leave. It is NOT NECESSARY to do a long smokey burnout on street tires or to drive through the water box. I always go around the waterbox on street tires then do a very short 3-5 second burnout just to clean the tires off from the gravel etc.
