Airbags kill people. Seatbelts kill people. Putting your face through the windshield kills people. Collapsing/breaking/folding seats kill people.

Something in your car has killed someone. But a majority of the safety devices work for a majority of the people.

In the states (maybe just mine, but I'm pretty sure it's nationwide) it's Illegal to disable your drivers-side airbag. And if you get injured and your insurance company finds out your airbag was disabled, you can kiss your coverage goodbye.

And your insurance company is expecting that rebuild to be 100% rebuilt and is expecting it to have a new airbag.

Having seen two airbags come at me, it's scary. The car fills up with the smoke and dust - it burns your skin, eyes, lungs and clothing. But it sure beats whacking your face on the steering column.

I'd say keep the airbag even if you're short, or, at the very least, do some more research on it before being too quick to disable it. I bet the number of short people saved by airbags is far greater than those killed by them.

I'm no MD or lawyer, so do what you want - these are just my thoughts after reading all of the stuff in this thread
