that dry brush sound is most likely coming from worn pads. there is a squeeler that will begin to contact the rotor when there is 1.6mm of friction material left on the inside pad. and yes, when you first get to that point, touching the brakes makes it go away.

and the clunk is from your right front out CV joint. bad part is, once you can here it, it is too late.
