Then I hook back up the cable and lock the clip in place. Mine stays closed fine. You might have a bad valve or something, I see that from time to time. If you want to know for sure use hose pinch plier's and pinch off the heater hose after the valve. Then see if you get a cooler temp. reading. I do this on every car when checking the a/c performance.
It's exactly what I did, slip off the clip, heat control to cool, turn valve all the way to closed postion, slip back on and clip holder into place. It just doesn't seem that it can push the lever all the way shut. It works fine now for the time being, besides I don't have a personal Raytech gun to get a good shot read. When class starts back up again (August), I use the school's gun and if I get a significantly higher effluent from the valve, I figure next time I need to drain my coolant and refill, I'll change out the valve then.
