bikes are a lot less practical...and like de.fused and others pointed out, your a lot more vulnerable than in a car (obviously). And if your college is anything like mine you cant get a parking spot until your sophomore or junior year from the college. And it has to be a garage spot (or buy a cover). I was in your spot last year. I picked a bike, a 2000 VF800 interceptor....yellow....i'm still paying it off, and i wish i would have gotten a swap. I park it on the street usually, unti one day i went in for the night, and the next morning i found it laying on its side, somebody hit it h: Given the decision again i would have chosen a swap (or a faster car).

Edit: just one tip, if you do decide to get the bike, don't go any bigger than a 600.
