I lived in Conroe for 10 years, on the lake. I can turn you on to some fun stuff to do. The Cajun Catfish festival in the fall, and the Montgomery Co fair and cookoff in the spring. If you have kids, take a weekday off in the summer and go to Splashtown. Moody Gardens in Galveston is also worthwhile, as is the Nasa tour. If you are going to live in Houston, get the windows tinted on your vehicles if they are not already, trust me. You now can switch to high performance, summer only tires too, so that is a plus. Toyota makes a fine vehicle, though they had some issues with the head gaskets on the V-6.
