ok, stop where you are. dont remove anything. get a 5lb hammer and a punch. hit the stud out. get your other one and put in. get a metal tube that will fit over your stud and still leave room to get the lug on the stud. put the metal tube over your stud and thread the lug on the stud. get a hand wrench and twist the lug until the stud has been pulled all the way in. done deal. Dont make things harder then they are.
