Actually if you think about it, it's the amount of air coming in through the intake manifold that leans an engine out, not the fuel from the injectors, they're probably the same regardless of where on the rail they are (they're pressurized and only letting a small amount out). #3 would get the benefit of the incoming air and any that bouces off the end of the manifold and comes back.
