This reminds me of the Best Motoring episode where they're racing the Evo and the Impreza. While the Evo's computer-controlled diffs were good, they were not preferred to the traditional mechanical diffs of the Subaru.
The jap-spec EVO and STi have very similar setups. Both have a computer-controlled center differential. The STi has front and rear mechanical LSDs; the EVO's rear diff at least is limited slip and I think its front may be as well.
