I agree that some people may have thought his abnormal behavior could have escalated so they took a step to have it resolved when it landed.

However, after it was clear that he was being no more than an assh0le; it should have been ended at that, and the guy should be let go.

I don't feel like the Government should step in because someone hurts someone's feelings. If they want to step in because they feel like a situation is perhaps on route to become dangerous (on an airline that'd be bad), then fine, do so. After that cleared up and it is in fact NOT a violent encounter, let the guy go. All he did was point some fingers and call people names.
