so when you talk about shims and goo you mean to stop the pads from squeeking right?
shims will make the pad tilt thus one part of the pad will contact the rotor first. that reduces rotor chatter and squeeking. Goo does the samething but by lubricating the back of the pad and where the caliper touch.
some people say to use one of the other but you can actually use both.
I use both when I replace brake pads.
just a way to same time later by using both.
