Allow me to rephrase.
Running from a roll has nothing to do with the driver whatsoever. It is all about the car. All the driver does from a roll is mash the pedal. Launching from a total stop is really the only time that the driver comes into play, and I happen to think wins in racing should come from the combination of a good driver AND a good car.
A good example of what I'm talking about is a chap with one of the few Z06 'Vettes around here. He brought it the track when he first got it and turned in a night of consistent low 10s -- in the 1/8.
From a roll, he's a terror -- because of his car. From a stop, he's a joke -- because of him.
