I would try to find a middle ground between the two. The belt noise is a bit much, but the slack doesn't look good either. I've never noticed that much slack in any of my cars. The noise will probably subside after a week or so. If you followed the procedure and it makes a little noise, you might want to drive it for a few days to see if the noise subsides.
