What you've got is air trapped between the layers of rubber in the sidewall. It is a weak point in the rigidity of the tire. Another pothole such as the one you struck could spell doom for for your tire, as could a good curb check. Sometimes, if the tire's new enough, you can get the tire replaced pro-rata and not have to pay for the entire cost of a new tire.
