Default cv joint replacement

i have a bad cv joint. ive read through my manual and i think i can do it myself, but i want to find out if it would be better to just take it to a mechanic. is it really tough or time consuming? what fluids do i need to drain and replace for the job? and the other cv boot doesnt seem to be damaged or ripped in any way, but i see some grease coming out of the end of the boot towards the tranny. does this mean that i should replace it? or is that normal.thanx
