Sometimes, it's just pure accident -- you cant always be concentrating on everything at every single second. Humans will wander, mentally. And even during parallel parking and whatnot. Heck, even Motor Trend did a full length editorial on the Accord EX coupe in like 98 or 99 or something, and they had a close-up view of one of the car's sawtooth-style 15" alloys, and the caption read "The Accord's wheels are prone to curb scrapes..."
I have powdercoated dark grey rims on my car and have had them on for coming up on a year...I have yet to curb them.
This is where knowing your car and being in control of your car at all times comes into play.
