Apparently, Honda switched the 6th gens (98-02) from 5W-30 to 5W-20 for the 01-02 Accords. Why?

My '02 Accord runs on the recommended 5W-20 (dealership does the oil changes), but I don't know if it's safe for autocross use.

Should I be using 5w-30?
