I'm pretty sure the Si-R was electro VSS.

And VSS stands for VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR. They are located on the back of the transmission. There is a gear in the tranny that turns the cable which turns your speedometer. The electronic ones just convert the turning of the gear into a signal the speedo can read.
