variable speed sensor...its what reads your mph from the tranny???, not to sure bout that could be the distributor but doubt it, and relays back to the speedo for a readout. only reason i know this is b/c my friends 96 civics vss went out and his speedo no longer worked...until he hit a bump and knocked it working again.
