well- i doubt the pump itself is actually clogged- they have a pretty good size 'sock' filter on them anymore and it would be VERY difficult to block all of it. besides, bad idle tends to indicate fuel pressure probs- bad running under throttle tends to indicate fuel volume probs. (not always, but generally)

brown eh? ever had any sneaky feelings that the car has been underwater before? anyway, if it is brown, you need to consider a couple of options-

it's possible that the filter has simply been in there a long time and is that dirty.

if it was my car, here is what I would do in order-

1- go ahead and replace your filter again
2- go to NAPA and pick-up a can of SeaFoam. It is a kick-butt cleaner that you can use in the fuel tank and oil. (you only need to worry about fuel tank for now)
3- put in SeaFoam accord to instructions- about 1/3 to 1/2 can on full tank.
4- after that tank is gone, go ahead and change your filter again
5- run a full tank of gas again (no SeaFoam this time)
6- change your filter again.

each time you change filters dump out a small amount into something like a white plastic butter container and look for crap.

if after the second or third change it seems to be running clear and your engine seems to be running good, i'd say you're ok. maybe go ahead and change the filter once a month for another 2-3 months as well as use some Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner every other tank for a month or two just to help.

Now, if the above just seems to keep bringing out crap, I'd seriously consider taking it to a repair shop and having the gas tank pulled and flushed, It will likely cost about $130-$170, but it would be well worth it.

If you do have a bunch of crap in the tank and the filter does manage to plug and you run the motor lean when you just happen to be on the freeway or (not) racing from a light, you could burn things a bit.

hope it helps.
