I'm involved in a similar project, that is I want to install a computer in my car, but mainly for navigation purposes.

I am using a 7'' LCD with touch screen features and a VGA port which eliminates the need to convert the computer screen to TV signal, and it also eliminates the use of a mouse, keyboard, or remote. Go to www.xenarc.com if you're interested. It's a bit expensive, but it's worth it.

The problem I have is how to shut down the computer automatically without getting "The computer was not shut down properly. . ." message when I turn the key off. I heard that a UPS will do the trick, but I also heard that it will consume so much power that the car battery won't ' last long.

Any ideas?
