If you're picking apart the engine, then you should replace main and rod bearings, thrust washers, any leaking seals (all seals on high mileage engine), water pump (mileage depending), oil pump (mileage depending), timing belt, maybe more.
Then you need a good hone of the block; bore if you got oversized pistons. You might need a good micropolish of the crank. It's a lot of things to do, not just pop in pistons + rods.
