i have never had a problem with it. I washed my 96 lx numerous times when hot. I dont "pour" water on the engine. That WILL cause a rapid cooldown of the outer engine causing warpage/cracks. I spray it lightly, not all at once. Its better when its running because its creating heat from the inside out so you'll have virtually no cool down because the heat is being replaced from the inner engine.
