I am a Roman Catholic and have been brought up that way married to a Disciples of Christ Protestant. We had a dual Priest ceremony in my wife's Church. I believe in my religion because I have not seen any proof that my beliefs are wrong. But it is interesting that unless you are an athiest everyone believes in some higher diety. Whether or not you are Christian, Jew, Muslim, Budhist, etc., each religion believes in a power greater than themselves.
It's not that we have to prove God exists or doesn't exist. The history of the religion was proof enough to me. I dont need people telling me how to live, what is just and unjust, what is moral and not moral. I dont agree with being told what to do, how to act, and where to go to church. I hate people that try and tell me I'm going to Hell just because I "didnt accept Jesus" ... the jerks are lucky they didnt accept my foot in their throat. Hundreds and hundreds of years of Christianity have brainwashed mankind. People are controlled thru fear of damnation. It's the same as any government. Religion holds too much power and shouldn't hold any governmental position. Thats my opinion.
As far as proof goes. For centuries it was heresy to believe the world was round, and the Church would have you burned and tortured as a heretic for thinking so. We all know the truth in that. For hundreds and hundreds of years it was heresy to believe in ANYTHING except what the Catholic church wanted. The reformation came around and changed all that but the fact that you had to agree with everything the Church said was ludricious. I can't follow that religion. Thats just me.
