does sound fine, and also in due time it will work the air out, just keep an eye on the coolent level, i have a 95, with bleed screw and wasn't aware of the change for 96, wonder why? but you can also open thermo like before and leave top hose clamp loose and cap on. burp the air out of the top hose carefully with a flat screwdriver, by lodging it gently between the neck and hose, just enough to purge air out that way, but be careful as the neck should be plastic as well as hot air/coolent coming out, here again i think your fine with earlier procedure
