First off, welcome to H-A.Net

Well, obviously the more torque the better. However, it can be decieving, just like horsepower. Horsepower is usually the greatest indicator for how fast a car is, and torque is the greatest indicator for how easy it is to drive the car at low RPMs.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/fpte3.htm

Go to that website, and if you have some questions that are more specific please tell me

As far as what's fastest between the Accord V6 automatic, Acura TSX 6 speed, and Acura RSX-S...the TSX should be a bit faster than the Accord but slower than the RSX-S. But this car has much more to offer than the RSX-S, so they really do not compete in any way.

Chris

PS - Are you trying to decide which car to buy?

the TSX have only 200hp and the Accord have 240hp how come the TSX faster??? and the RSX-S have 200hp as the TSX but the torque is only 145lb-ft compare to the TSX 161lb-ft, how can the RSX-S faster??? Also which car is better as in overall score, since the price between the TSX and the accord is about 25k
thanks

The TSX may have fourty less horsepower, but it is going to weigh about 300-400 less pounds and will have a 6 speed manual transmission, which will give it a decisive advantage over the 5 speed automatic in the Accord. The RSX-S is even lighter than the TSX and has shorter gearing, making it even faster.

Which car is better? It depends on your perogatives. The Accord is large, luxurious, and has a torquey engine. The RSX-S is small, kinda bare bones (well, at least compared to the others), handles like it's on rails and has a boy-racer small 4 cylinder that only makes power at the top of its rev range. The TSX is a smaller version of the Accord and will undoubtedly have better handling and be far sportier than it, but will retain all of its luxury features and then add some.

Please tell me if you have any more questions or if I didn't explain it well

Chris

There's just to many factor in a car's speed. Tires, total weight, weight distribution, gearing, FWD/RWD/AWD, etc.... Just don't take HP and TQ numbers as the sole measurement of estimating speed.

you see proof in front of you that AUTOs are slow, 1st gear in AUTOs are very tall. in comparison w/ 6th gen Accords 2.3L, the 5spd shifts at 30?mph & the SLOWmatic shifts at 35; the 1st 1/2 of the powerband is so weak that the sooner you get to the 2nd 1/2, the more advantage you have.

0-60mph is hard arguement for 6spds, becuz most Co.s gear the car's for fastest time w/ just 2 gears so they in relation are almost the same as 5spds. that 6th gear is mostly for fuel economy, not power. if you find a car that shifts into 3rd before 60mph, like the Celica GT-S, then that car was engineered to keep the gears within the powerband for drivablity, not all out speed.
