Do the BMW's have Reverse where first gear usually is? I mean its all the way to the left and up.

It's a hard left and then up. I guess the guy was shifting really fast and hard or something. Also, I think it tends to be more of a european shift pattern.

All I have to say is thank god my civic has a lock out on rev. when the car is in forward motion. And yeah, from what I remember, Audi, BMW, and VW all have reverse in the same spot as first it's just that you have to push down on the shifter to engage rev. That's more than likely what happened. I hope his tranny is ok.....
