Driving Gloves
Personal preference.
Personally, I prefer gloves over bare hands for the consistancy of feel [no sweaty palms to slip on the wheel or shifter].

It depends on what type of racing you do. Autocross is not necessary. For Solo I and Hill Climbs you need a suit, fire proof gloves, boots, baklava, SA helmet, etc... For drag racing you need to search the rules.
But for what?
But for what?

i was wondering if it helped in auto-x, it occured to me the other night that better grip on the steering wheel might make auto-x a little easier (and that this last time at the auto-x my hands were kinda nasty and slippery

ONly to change my tires or other parts on my car in the pits do I wear gloves. But it's not going to shave any time off

When I'm competing for those 40-60 seconds I don't even notice my sweating hands since I'm concentrating on the course
But whatever makes you comfortable works for you.

Unless you're racing and need multi-layer flame retardant gloves, gloves are just gloves. I prefer a very simple, lightweight lambskin palm and finger'd glove for autocrossing. Even when oily you get a nice, consistant grip on the wheel and shifter, and that's all I ever really go for. Not going for looks, not going for style, as I said before, gloves are a personal preference that depends on what you're more comfortable with.
