If I remember right you can go with a open faced helmet for track days. If you have a hard top. If you have a kart or convertible I believe you need a close face helmet. Soloracer does track days more than I do.

Also go online and look up NASA and SCCA track days and see what they require.

I tried the local bike shop for my helmet. The only Snell rated helmets they had were mainly higher end "M" rated models. They didn't carry any "SA" rated helmets or any Snell rated open faced models. I went with an "M2000" closed face for $109 and wish I had waited. At our first event, there were two vendors selling open faced "M2000" for $50. I like the open face for better vision...and they are much cooler. Now, I'm really new to this, but I was thinking I read most HPDE's required not only an "SA" rating, but more safety equipment like roll bars, etc. Regardless, I'm not considering any of those in the immediate future. After my first event, I see I have MUCH more work to do as a driver. Hope this helped.

Motorcycle shops will not carry SA helmets unless you special order them I believe. You have to go to a race shop to find SA rated helmets.

The sticker should be underneath the lining somewhere inside the helmet.

Everyone has their personal tastes though I love a close face helmet cause my sunglasses slip down my nose on hot summer days. Plus I wear contacts and need the block the wind. I leave my visor open about 1/2" everytime I run. I never fully shut it.

The HPDE school I attended with NASA back in 2002 only required M2000 helmets or better. You could fork out the extra money for an SA helmet, but check the rules. HPDEs also do not require roll bars or extinguishers until you get to Intermediate schools I believe.
