I don't want that strap in my crotch...perhaps I value my nuts more than others.

Not even if you get out of control? There is no chance it could ride your crotch in any circumstance? I've heard differently other places.

It's called an anti-sub belt (the 5th belt you are talking about). It prevents the harness from riding up and digging into your sterum/chest.

If you get out of control the last thing you will think about is your crotch. Anyway if you slide down in your seat your butt will hit the strap not your crotch.

Most people are like that. The 5th belt will prevent you from sliding under the harness in a bad crash though. There was a Subaru STI at a track day that just had a 4 point harness and they found the passenger in the footwell of the car when it crashed into a concrete barrier.
