Default So I was Autocross Chief for this past weekend.

I'm not going to boast or anything but it was alot of fun. Definitely enjoyed helping out and explaining things to people. I would say 1/2 our chiefs were brand new including myself at this type of thing.

My home region Appalachian Sports Car Club ran a pretty large event on Saturday and Sunday. We had new timing software, a new solo event chair, new timing personnel, new registration people, and me as new Autocross Chief.

We only had 2 hiccups on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. Seems to me the timing computer just was not cut out to handle so much info with around 90 cars at the event. It would crash during the 4th heat on both days. Saturday we also forgot to check our generator for gas

Overall I got alot of compliments from the old guard and bunch of competitors. I did have to kick out someone in a Ferrari who was just flying through the parking lot at Hershey Park AND decided to register. He acted cool about it.

I'd say congrats, or something ...but what does "Autocross Chair" entail? Course design, safety, set up, tear down, protests, timing/scoring accuracy etc? Are you the Event Chair? Is it a one event position, or annual BoD position? What sort of stuff do you explain to people, or is it explaining various rules to novices? Can you clarify for us?

When you kick people out of your events do you explain to them, they have to leave, but you'll gladly hold onto the keys of the vehicle until the end of the event? Cuz you should.

Ya'll run AXware, which locally handles 120+ entrants, and I saw/worked with the latest beta-version this past weekend. If ya'll think its a software issue crashing your cpu, get in touch with Vitek (yes folks that is his name, no he doesn't drive anything made by Honda), especially if the organization just bought it. Otherwise maybe its time to find money in the budget for a new T/S laptop?

The autocross chair helps organize the days events. Directing chiefs to their jobs (ie: Worker Chief, Timing, Scoring, Annoucer, Grid Chief, etc...). Also the liason between competitors and executives. Basically anything that needs it. I also do the driver's meeting and make sure the event keeps moving if there are problems.

We had a guy in a Ferrari flying through the parking lot trying to find his way into the event. I told registration he wasn't allowed to sign up, but someone didn't hear me. So I had to give him back his money and take away his registration.

Well this was the 2nd Ferrari I've seen show up at our autocross. Last year one showed with a supercharger. Let me tell you he couldn't drive and couldn't put the power to the ground.

Well this past weekend our Solo Chair designed the course. I guess I could do one too.
