Losing my Solo2 virginity...

Hybrid Track Day#1 at Streets of Willow, where I did a tire comparison between three 300UTGQ 195/50-15 tires.

I ranked them in this order,
1) Potenza RE730 on 98 GSRs

2) Proxes FZ4 on 94 GSRs

3) Ziex 502 on 97 GSRs. I was disappointed in this tire, it's on par, or a smidge less than Nitto NT450.

Hey VTEC,

How did the Potenza RE730's work for you? I have the same exact tire but I have yet to run them at a track day/autox event.

Best 300UTGQ tire I've driven on! (including Toyo FZ4, Nitto NT450, Falken 502, a set of Dunlops that I don't remember the exact name). IMO, the best balance of grip and treadlife. Consistenly 2-3mph faster in high speed steady state corners than FZ4.

There are a lot more tires that have more grip, but of course, they won't last 20,000+ miles. If you Solo2/hot lap occasionally on a car that's a primary daily driver, then this tire is for you. I like the rim protector too. The set that I ran on is currently on my brother's car, and still has a lot of meat on them. It's been through two full day track events (Hybrid Track Day #1 7/1/2000 and Hybrid Track Day #2 5/10/2002). The tires were installed June 2000, and have been in use since! There's probably at least 6 months of useable life left.

In a track event, I found they were very predictable at the limit. Play around with pressures to find a setup you like. I prefer good turn in, and I usually like higher pressures up front, 40-42 fronts, 35-38 rears. Other people prefer different tire pressures.

Well here are some pics of my dirty a$$ car. It rained in the morning, so needless to say the car was filthy.
