Default What to autox? new to honda

Hi,
I'm not very knowledgeble about honda and was wondering what hondas would good choice for auto cross racing? I want something that is relatively quick from the get go and that I can get for under 10,000. I am willing to do extensive modifications to the suspension (I kind of like cars that ride a little harsh). I just don't want to have to do any in depth engine modifications to make it get up and go. I did too much of that with my old subaru 2.5 rs and now I have a car thats pretty fast, when it actually runs and that will never pass smog again. I was looking into civic's since I need a reliable car that gets good gas milage, and I quickly learnd that I have no idea what the various model designations mean i.e. hx dx ex. Any info you guys would be willing to tell me or direct me towards would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Buy a Civic and drive it stock for many years till you get experience then decide what to do. The honda's that would give you the most options to be competitive would be the 88-92 Civic Si

CivicSiRacer knows his stuff when it comes to auto x, and he's pretty cool most of the time.
But no one wants to answer questions that have been beaten into the ground.
You'll find a lot of good stuff here, so just chill, post, and don't be turned off by people who may seem rude at first.
