Help with numbers for tires
Hey i'm a noob when it comes to these tire numbers. could someone briefly explain the difference. thank you

hey thanks guys i appreciate. i'm assuming the third of the bunch is the best?? but would i be ok with the first of the three? will i see a big difference?

it depends on the wheel and the car. the third (235/45/17) will only fit on a 17x7.5" rim. the others will just be roughly the same, but the 215/45/17 should have a stiffer sidewall than the 205/40/17.*

The width is in mm.
Sidewall stiffness is dependent on the model of tire.
Generally to figure out what size rim to put the tire on, check out the manufacturer's specs. They will list a rim width range and a "measuring rim width." The measuring rim width is the size of rim you have to mount the tire on to actually produce a section with of whatever the specified size is.
