Default blew my knee

so im running my saturday morning course of 8 miles getting ready for the annual ronald reagan race. as i cross the 5 mile marker, and snap!!! i collapse. my knee is the size of a balloon and i couldnt put weight on it. since i work in a physical therapy office, i got one of the orthos to check it out. 4 xrays and 1 MRI later i find out that i have completely torn my PCL in half. so my options are one, have surgery that has a minimum 8 month recovery or wear a straight leg brace for 6 months. it is the hardest knee surgery to recover from accoring to the doc. even harder than a total knee replacement. they also want me to sell my car (5 speed and its my left knee) and get a damn automatic and im not allowed to run ever again. :wtc: if i do the surgery it will be my 3rd one in 3 years. this sucks!!!

i can't run anymore shoot me :wtc:

just needed to vent!!!!!!!!!!!!

damn that sucks...especially since it seems that running is a love you have
and having to give up stick shift...thats mad crazy
which option will make the leg the strongest???
regardless i dont think you will be driving a stick-car for a minimum of 6 months

good luck and tell us what you decide

dakarm~ i dont have a pic. its a bad sight though. my whole knee is blue and purple and yellowish green. its gross.

eriksshadow~ i think im done running. my first surgery on it was a major surgery. they had to move my knee cap cause it got stuck 3 1/2 inches out of place. it took me 18 months to get back to running a normal pace. i dont know if i can do it again. plus, im not allowed to.

airon~ you're right. running is a love of mine. i run everyday. my knee seems to hate it though. it keeps giving my probs. i will NEVER own another automatic. its the pussy way out imo. im still driving, but barely. it hurts like hell.

dave~ pcl = posterior cruciate ligament. it keeps your knee from hyper extending. this is the 5th time ive torn it, but by far the worst. the last times were just knicks in it. i feel your pain though. ive dislocated the same knee 6 times. it sucks. my advice to you is to build up your quad and calf muscle, then you have better support on your knee and less risk of damage.

damn thats harsh

I was gonna pop off with a comment like...how did you get it in your mouth.....but damn.

Maybe you should see if after rehab you will be able to pick up bicycling....maybe not mountain bike but raod bike is good exercise and the benefits are similiar to running and not as hard on the knees.

yeah, ive been working out my legs a lot now. mostly high reps.

i used to run a lot until i started feeling knee pains and stuff so now i use the eliptical (sp?) machine which is no impact and gives good cardio.

dave~ the elliptical machine is wonderful for the body. if you want more strength do less weight and more reps. it builds more muscle.
