Default knots

i noticed a year or two ago that my dad knows how to tie all sorts of knots. probably because he used to sail a lot? i don't know.

it's come up more and more recently that it'd be very useful to know how to tie different types.

any of you good at tying knots?

i just loop and pull and tie over hand knots until it doesn't move anymore

i'm going to buy some rope / cord / whatever on amazon to practice with.

When I was sailing, I learned all kinds of knots, but have totally forgotten them. I need to relearn them. Some would be good for tying down stuff, which I'm currently terrible at.

I learned a lot of knots from fishing, boating and doing tree work.

It is a good skill to know.

My knots suck. The knots I end up using when I pack stuff into the bed of a truck sucks.

I was a boy scout, so I learned a lot, but I'd be surprised if I still remember more than a handful of them.

If you're anchoring a tower of sorts, I prefer using the slip-knot. Square knots are my usual go-to.

I know a handful from the FF/EMT gigs but I need to become more proficient.

Used to know a good chunk from theater, but now know a few more from volunteering at the maritime museum. Clove, bowline, and square are the top three.
