Default tax/income question

I worked over this summer for ~2 months.

I've heard that there is a rule that if you make under a certain amount of money while at a job (I heard 5k, but I'm not positive), that you'll get all the money back that was taken out in taxes back when you file you're returns. Any truth to this rumor?

:yay:

I had just shy of 900 dollars taken out. That should be good for a poor college student in February!

you are sent a W2 from your company around January or February and you then file them with the IRS. They determine if you owe money or if you get money returned to you.

turbo tax! well worth the money, its a lot easier than trying to do all the paperwork. direct deposit (or debit if you owe) is nice too... but costs a little extra

and yes RB you should get it all of your federal and state income taxes back... you don't get social security or medicare back until you are "old"

dont count on getting all that back roast beef. You may get a couple hundred back but everyone ends up paying taxes no matter how much you make

If you are filing by yourself and you make under $9k you will not owe any taxes. Anything above that and you will be taxed (depending on your status) around 10% under $24k. If you made more than that in a summer you shouldn't be bitching about taxes lol.
