Default RIAA petition

The RIAA is ****ing people over just for downloading MUSIC. Its not like these people are going out raping, or doing violence, they just like to listen to music. It hurts people like Madonna (sp!?) and whatever. Sure there is a copyright law, but going at it this way is just wrong.

In recent news, they sued a 12 year old girl and slapped on her a $2000 fine. When I was 15, I got a gig to do computer work for $2000 for two week contract, to me, that was like a million dollars.

They are slapping college students with fines over $10,000, and recently they are also suing a bus driver in Bay Area here. Its like, WTF!!! These people usually dont have these kinds of cash, and its just thief if you ask me.

Sure its crime, but cmon, this isnt the way to go, fuuckin peoples financial lives for MUSIC!?!?!? I can understanding fuuckin peoples financial / personal lives for REAL CRIME, like violence, murder, rape, but cmon, for music? Its so fuucked up. People have a hard enough time trying to survive today from bill to bill, they dont need a potential max fine of $150,000 which RIAA will slap on you if they feel like you can pay it in your LIFETIME.

Anyways, a petition is forming by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, still needs another 5000 signature.

Sign up guys, just takes a second, can make a difference in protecting the innocent (I dont consider copying a CD makes you labelled as guilty, or criminal).

Thats part of the problem really is that there are now more groups that can only perform in a studio and can't work a crowd or perform live without lip synching.

The artistry from music has long been dead....its just kinda hanging by a string at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I've D/L'd music illegally, but I know what I'm doing is wrong...

No offense but I think that petition is incredibly dumb. Ignoring all the spelling and grammatical errors, it's basically asking the RIAA not to prosecute people who are obviously guilty of consciously breaking a law. Of course I download music too, but it's still illegal. And another thing that people don't consider is small up and coming artists who DO loose a lot of money off of cds, not just huge people like Britney Spears.

that abides by copywrite laws...downloading music is different and you know it.

:werd:

i think its funny, DMB is a huge supporter of free music and they're still really rich.

and lttletimmy- i don't know if its just me, but little bands like that, or bands i enjoy supporting, like DMB, sublime, etc., i buy their albums.

But this sets a precedent to infringe on the fair use act.
