what do the bride & the groom normally get from their families??

I was at a wedding(chinese) yesterday. They spend almost a hour receiving gifts. Everything was gold this and gold that. What caught everyone's attention was the bride's side of the family gave the groom $38,888 CASH!!!!!

There was like 400 ppls there and everyone was like WTF..WoW

 

the parents of the bride and groom usually have a part in paying for everything (ie: the wedding and reception) and then they'll sometimes get them a small gift. whatever they can afford and work out w/ the other parents.

Hmm, I think in chinese tradition, the groom usually pays for the everything. But thats neat they sort of compromised there.

 

I love chinese receptions! All sorts of mad food. Who needs dancing when you can eat for hours/

 

I always give vacuum cleaners. Always. done it 3 times and each time everyone thanked me personally. It's something they can use all the time

I give one large one and a smaller car vac for the bathroom/car

 

was it a mandarin or cantonese wedding?
