Default where are my Michiganians at? v. planning a summer trip

Just thought I'd get some input from all of the Michigan-dwellers on here on what do while I'm there. I'll be headed up in early July with the wife and 1 year old to visit my in-laws who live in St. Joseph. From there we were looking to check out some stuff along western MI and maybe check out Mackinac Island. Soooo....what have you guys got?

Michigan Crew checking in! What all are you guys trying to get into. Are you into outdoorsie stuff, sports, water parks, etc etc...Mackinac is a good time, and actually the Cherry Festival in Traverse City is a really good time. I believe it is the weekend before the fourth of July. or the weekend after. Also sleeping bear sand dunes are awesome.

Sounds promising. I'll put it on the short list. :hsughr:

Well, we definitely want to do some outdoor activities like hiking and maybe some bike riding (if we get some bikes and a rack before then). I'm not really a big sports guy so that type of stuff isn't a must. I've only been golfing like twice ever but it definitely looks like there are some nice courses up there. We already had the Cherry Festival on our list and kind of planned our dates so we could make it there. We'll be up that way July 8-15 so we'll have plenty of time to do stuff.

We've been looking at various resorts and rental properties but haven't made any decisions on where to stay yet although it looks like the Traverse City area will be the main attraction. We definitely want to check out Sleeping Bear Dunes and possibly Mackinac as well. The biggest factors are that we'll have my daughter with us and that I don't want to spend a grip. I originally didn't want to take a vacation at all this year to put money towards other stuff but have since decided that this would be a nice compromise as long as we can keep the costs down to reasonable level.

Not for sure we'll make it over to the Ann Arbor area but thanks for the info, Al.
