j00 heard wrong. it's 500hp for the M5. you probably confused the 5.5L for 550hp
550 was a pipe dream someone thought up.
also the V8 in the E90 is not the same engine as the S62 in the E39 M5.
It's brand new. but ~400hp is the guesstimate.
and how is V8 with ~350-400hp and crap load of torque not out doing themselves? :slap:
also Hartge did not transplant a S62, it was a M62 and they added their own stuff to bump the hp.

Apparently Hartge did drop an s62 into an e46 m3. They call it the Hartge H50. They also dropped one into a z4.
