That is what I understood of non-profit organizations.
they don't have to have 0, as long as the money left over is ear marked for the next fiscal years programs and such. However, not being a CPA I don't know how many years in a row they can do that. :dunno:

usually if the money isnt spent, its given back to the grant people. thats why we did such cool stuff at the end of the year; we had so much money left over. too bad they couldnt give us bonuses.h:

probably the slight difference between non-profit and not for profit :dunno:

but I used to have my own non-profit organization in college :happysad: we never had money left over at the end of the year. we had our own tax exempt id and everything :rick:

h: now you are going into territory that i dont understand. :dunno: :happysad:

i just know the grant people give us a certain amount of money to do certain things within a certain amount of time. if we have left over money, we have to tell them what we want to do with the money. when they approve, we get to spend it. and if we still have money left over after the grant is over, the money doesnt roll over. it just disappears from us in a sense. i dunno though. i never did grant writing or proposals.

i think grants work differently. my organization only got money from donations of private citizens and other businesses...

grants usually are restricted in how it can be spent. unless your a super famous research scientist, then you just use the money to buy a few 911s (like my gfs old professor did :chuckles: )
